The King Coal Hotel

What is left of The King Coal Hotel in Rainelle, West Virginia. Snow covered the ground, shower walls and room doors still on the hinges two stories up, and a giant lump of coal guards the entrance of what used to be the most prestigious hotel in the lumber area of West Virginia.

  1. Sitting in my home in North Carolina, 8-6-11, I thought of the King Coal Hotel from back Home. I never saw it when it was in operation but have heard stories. I was wondering if this Grand Hotel was restored could it help the economy of a small home town full of American History. Could the original plans be found? I would love to see it restored to it full glory. Bill Walkup

  2. I was conceived in this hotel in September of 1968. My mother worked there and I don't know who my father is. I was born in Durham, N.C. In June of 1969. My mom and dad (on paper) were running this hotel. My understanding is that dad had a girlfriend. Mom was seeing a man from another state, he had two sons and a wife. I am looking for my biological father. If anyone that visits this site and may know something please message me. In later years my dad bought this hotel but sold it in about 1982-83.
